Samantha - Founder of Creative Serenity
I'm the founder of Creative Serenity, and I've spent nearly 20 years using creativity to support and connect with adults who have additional needs.
From a young age, I've loved art and making things with my hands โ but it was when I began sharing these experiences with others that I truly saw their power. Over the years, I've worked with people of all abilities and backgrounds, and I've seen how creative expression can unlock confidence, build friendships, and make people feel truly seen.
I've worked with adults with additional needs for most of my career, and my approach is always led by empathy, flexibility, and a genuine belief in every person's potential. Whether we're painting, crafting, dancing, making something with felt, clay or playing music together โ my goal is always the same: to create a space where everyone feels safe, included, and inspired.
Our community in action
One of the most meaningful moments in my work was with a client who was deafblind. She had a clear artistic vision โ a colour scheme of pink, white, and green โ but couldn't distinguish the colours by sight. Independence was incredibly important to her, so rather than choosing the colours and threads randomly for her, I gave each one a texture she could feel: ๐ธ soft wool for pink, ๐ค smooth silk for white, and ๐ฟ coarse cotton for green.
This simple adaptation meant she could select each colour by touch โ and continue creating completely independently, exactly how she wanted to.
That moment captures what Creative Serenity is all about: empowering people through creativity and connection, always on their own terms.
Creative Serenity is built on the belief that creativity can be a powerful tool for connection, confidence, and self-expression. Whether someone is joining us for the first time or has been part of our sessions for years, they're welcomed into a space where they're respected, encouraged, and free to be themselves.
This work has been my passion and at the heart of my career for nearly two decades. I'm proud and privileged to keep creating spaces where people can grow, connect, and enjoy the simple art of making something โ together.

Over the years, I've come to realise that the group itself is just as important as the activity we're doing. The way people interact, support one another, and simply be together can completely transform a creative session. That's why I care so deeply about group dynamics โ because when a group feels safe, relaxed, and connected, something really special happens. People open up, grow in confidence, and often form friendships that last far beyond the session.
At Creative Serenity, every session is shaped by the energy, needs, and interests of the group. That's what makes each day special โ and no two sessions are the same.
Whether we're crafting, painting, dancing, or making music together on a Friday, it's about more than just the activity โ it's about belonging.
Every individual is unique, and we celebrate those differences. Our sessions are designed around each person's interests, abilities, and goals.
Art, music, and creativity are powerful tools for communication, confidence-building, and joy. We provide the space and materials for self-expression to flourish.
Friendship and belonging are at the heart of what we do. Our sessions create natural opportunities for social connection and mutual support.
We provide detailed quarterly reports for each participant, including photos of their creative journey, achievements, and development. These reports help track progress and celebrate growth.
